The holidays mean that you will soon be traveling a lot and doing this with your pet can be tricky at times. Even if new rules and pet perks make it way lot easier to carry your fur babies with you, going from one place to another can be quite a hassle and may cost you grands. There are a lot of factors to consider while traveling with a pet, but with pre-planning and a good foresight of what could and what could not happen, the stress of bringing in your pets to travel could be lessen.

Here are a few snippets of what you should do for a hassle-free travel with your pet buddy.

LAND TRAVEL
THINK AHEAD

Plot out the pit stops and ensure that your pet’s collar has a visible identity tag with your permanent address and vacation location just incase you get separated from the trip. You also need to stock up on basic pet necessities such as food, water, toys and items that will calm their mad senses. Never ever let your fur babies climb the front seat, while this may be a good idea for you, we suggest that you comfortably secure them in carriers instead. Nature breaks shall also be planned, smaller animals would probably need to answer the call of nature in three to four hours, while larger, older dogs would need more frequent breaks. Don’t ever leave your fur babies in the car, even with the air conditioner turned on. You brought them with you, you must adjust. Choose restaurants and establishments that allow pets, so you cut the worry.

AIR TRAVEL
WHEN IN DOUBT, ASK.

Airports and airline services and amenities have started being pet-friendly the past few years, however, it would still be necessary to ask questions before you fly with your friend. Before booking a flight, call your preferred airline and ask about your flight. It is important to know where and how will your pet be accommodated on the plane. Never put your pets to risk by allowing them to sit in the cargo because the cargo isn’t a cabin. Choose your cabin strategically, find airlines that would allow your fur babies to sit in the cabin with you and let them take a medicine to keep them calm through the flight.

Remember, these type of travel does not come cheap, so you should be ready of paying extra costs.

SEA TRAVEL

FIND THE BEST DEAL

Very few sea vessels would be too generous to welcome your pets on board cruise ships. To find a cruise line that would allow you to voyage the seas with your dogs or cats or any type of pets would be a little too hard on your part. Always plan ahead and find the best deals, doing a research before you book to sail with your pet will be of great help.

It is necessary to make planning before you travel, no matter what type of option you use. Assess your pets and be sure of the risks you are placing them in. Tranquilizers and sedatives would be good but we do not strongly encourage the use of these. Visit the vet first before you go. You should choose what is best for you and your pet’s personality. However, you may also find a near pet-sitting establishment to leave your pets with, so you could enjoy a peaceful-worry free holiday vacation!
