Pet Grooming Questions Before the First Visit
How do you handle aggressive pets?
We know grooming can be stressful for a pet that isn’t used to it, and we work patiently with every pet that comes in. Keeping your pet and our team members safe comes first. If a pet is still too aggressive to groom safely after a second visit, we’ll talk with you about whether we’re the right fit going forward.
What if my pet has health or medical issues?
Grooming can be more stressful for senior pets or pets with health conditions, and it can sometimes reveal or aggravate a condition. We groom these pets for cleanliness and comfort rather than pushing a full style. Please tell us about any current or past health issues before your visit, and let us know if anything changes. As the pet parent, you’re responsible for any veterinary costs that result from a pre-existing or newly discovered condition.
What is your policy on vaccinations?
Pets coming in for grooming should be current on vaccinations. Bring your records to your visit, or send us a copy ahead of time and we’ll keep it on file.
How should I bring my pet in for grooming?
Bring dogs in on a leash with a collar or harness snug enough that they can’t slip out. Bring cats in a secure carrier. Cats especially feel calmer in a carrier, since new sounds and other pets can spook them.
Can I bring my pet in for grooming when they are in heat?
We recommend waiting until your pet is no longer in heat before scheduling grooming, for their comfort and the comfort of other pets at our location. Please also let our team members know if your pet isn’t spayed or neutered so we can plan accordingly.
What’s Included
What is included in a Full Groom?
A Full Groom includes a bath with hypoallergenic shampoo, a facial (a gentle version is used if your pet has sensitivities), a massage, blow dry, nail trim, gland expression, ear cleaning, paw pad trim, a sanitary trim, and a full haircut.
What is included in a Bath and Brush?
A Bath and Brush includes a bath with hypoallergenic shampoo and facial, a massage, blow dry, nail trim, gland expression, and ear cleaning. It does not include a haircut.
How long does a standard grooming visit take?
Extra small and small dogs: 2 to 3 hours for a Full Groom, 1 to 2 hours for a Bath and Brush. Medium, large, and extra large dogs: 3 to 4 hours for a Full Groom, 2 to 3 hours for a Bath and Brush. Cats: 1 to 3 hours for either service. These are estimates; specialty cuts and multiple pets can add time.
What additional services are available?
Our most popular add-on is teeth brushing. We also offer nail polish, temporary hair coloring, and stenciled color accents. See our pricing page for the full list and current prices.
Booking & Scheduling
How do I book a visit?
Choose the location that works best for you and use the Book Now button on that location’s page.
Do you take walk-ins?
We don’t take walk-ins. Book online through your location’s page. Pampership members get priority booking.
What are your hours?
Hours vary by location. Check your location’s page.
Which locations groom cats?
Not every location offers cat grooming. Check our online booking page to see which shops offer cat grooming services. See cat grooming services and prices.
What if I want services for my pet ASAP?
We offer an ASAP service that gets your pet in and out faster, with continuous attention during their visit. It’s a good fit if your pet has a history of kennel stress, is new to grooming, is older and struggles being away from home, has a medical condition, or if you or your pet are new to a grooming shop in general. Pricing depends on your pet’s size, weight, and whether you choose a Full Groom or a Bath and Brush; please let us know ahead of time so we can plan for it.
Do you clean my dog's teeth?
We brush them. Teeth brushing is a quick add-on you can request at any of our six locations, and you can add it to a Full Groom or a Bath and Brush. For a deeper cleaning, see our Teeth Cleaning page for scheduled events with an outside provider. See nail trims and add-ons for what brushing runs.
What happens if I don’t show up for my appointment?
We understand things come up. The first time you don’t show up for an appointment without 24 hours’ notice, we’ll waive the no-show charge. After that, we’ll need a $50 deposit to hold future bookings.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel. Pet parents who cancel with less notice, or who don’t show, may be asked for a $50 deposit to hold future visits.
Pickup & Payment
How do I get notified when my pet is ready?
We’ll call or text you when your pet is ready. Please wait for that call before coming back to the location, and reach out anytime if you have questions after drop-off.
What is your pickup policy?
We ask that pets be picked up within 2 hours of our call or text.
What happens if I'm unable to pick my pet up on time?
If your pet isn’t picked up within 30 minutes of closing, an additional $15 per 15 minutes is added to your total. If something comes up, let us know as soon as you can.
What if I'm late for my pet's visit?
If you’re running late, we’ll text you to check in. If you arrive within 15 minutes of your appointment time, we can still take care of your pet that day. After 15 minutes, we’ll need to reschedule.
Someone else is dropping off my pet. How do I let you know what I want done?
We follow the instructions of whoever drops off your pet. If you have specific requests, stop in before the visit to walk us through them, or message your location ahead of time (photos work too). Keep in mind a final haircut plan can only be confirmed once we see your pet’s coat in person that day.
If someone else picks up my pet, can I make payment over the phone?
Yes. Phone payments carry a $3 processing fee.
What if I have a question during my pet's visit?
We ask that you not interrupt the groomer mid-service, for the safety of every pet being groomed. Please wait for our call that your pet is ready, and reach out anytime after drop-off if you have questions.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, all major credit and debit cards, Venmo, and Zelle. Tips can be added through any of these methods.
I have a gift card, what can I use it on?
Gift cards can be used on any grooming service or boutique item at any of our six locations. Bring your card with you at pickup, or show it on your phone. Gift cards and eCards are non-refundable at time of purchase.
What is your return and refund policy on products sold?
Returns and refunds on boutique products are accepted within 7 days of purchase.
Pet Grooming Questions on Pricing & Membership
What is a Pampership?
A monthly membership. The Pampered Pooch includes 1 Full Groom and 3 Baths a month. Wet/Dry Dog includes 4 Baths a month. Price is set by your dog’s size and weight. Your membership starts the day you sign up. Sign up for a Pampership.
How do I determine which Pampership size to select?
Choose your Pampership tier based on your pet’s breed, size, and weight from our pricing list. If a periodic size check finds your pet registered under the wrong size, your Pampership may be adjusted to match.
How are prices determined?
Pricing is based on your pet’s size, weight, behavior, and coat condition. If you’re concerned about matting or behavior ahead of time, message your location so we can plan the visit accordingly. We also offer add-ons for an additional price; see our pricing page for ranges.
Why do you ask for my dog’s weight?
Price is set by size and weight, so we ask when you book or sign up. Weight can change, so your price can change from visit to visit.
What is the handling fee?
Pets who need a muzzle or extra hands to groom safely have a handling fee, because the groom takes longer or another team member needs to assist.
How often are prices increased?
We review pricing yearly as needed to keep up with rising costs of doing business.
Discounts & Community
Do you offer a military discount?
Yes. Show your military ID for 10% off a Bath and Brush or Full Groom. This discount can’t be combined with other offers.
Do you offer multiple pet discounts?
We don’t offer a standing multiple-pet discount, but we do run other ways to save, including the military discount and monthly Deal Days. Follow us on social media for the current deal each month.
I foster for or run a local rescue, do you offer any discounts?
Yes. Rescues and qualifying foster pet parents get half off the first three visits per dog, then standard pricing after that. This discount is for rescue and foster pets only, not personal pets.
What is Deal Day and what is the policy around it?
Once a month, we run a Deal Day with a discount on grooming services (the percentage changes monthly). To make sure the deal reaches as many pet parents as possible, a pet can’t be booked for Deal Day two months in a row; you can still book a regular-priced visit in the off month. Please book the correct service for that day, since we can’t change the service type once you’re at our location.
I'd like Puff and Fluff Grooming to donate to an event. How do I submit a request?
We love supporting our community. Send donation requests to info@puffandfluffspa.com.
Trust, Safety & Policies
How does Puff and Fluff Grooming share terms, conditions, and policies with pet parents?
Once a year, in January, we send a new General Release form that pet parents review and check off before we can book any future visit.
What if I feel an injury occurred while my pet was at Puff and Fluff Grooming?
Let us know within 12 hours of the visit. We ask that you take your pet to a veterinarian within 24 hours of leaving the location so a third party can evaluate what happened. If Puff and Fluff Grooming is found responsible and your pet was seen within that 24-hour window, we’ll cover the medical bill after reviewing the vet’s invoice.
How does Puff and Fluff Grooming notify me of medical or safety issues that come up?
If we notice something during your pet’s visit, we’ll send you home with a note letting you know. If you notice something afterward, contact us within 72 hours so we can look into it.
What if my pet has behavior issues?
Please tell us about any current or past behavior concerns. We reserve the right to pause, adjust, or decline a grooming service at any point, before, during, or after, if your pet becomes unsafe to groom; a fee applies for the portion completed.
What if I have a problem and need to speak with the owner?
After every visit, you’ll get a follow-up email asking about your experience. If anything didn’t sit right, reply to that email, message your location, or email info@puffandfluffspa.com. We take the time to listen and make it right.
My pet's haircut or service isn't quite what I expected, can I get it corrected?
Yes. Let us know within 48 hours and we’ll correct it at no charge, and we’ll note the change for next time. A few factors, temperament, coat type, and matting among them, mean we can’t guarantee an exact result every visit.
Do you take photos of my pet?
Yes. Bringing your pet in means you’re okay with us photographing them for our records, as well as for our website and social media.
More Pet Grooming Questions
Am I able to talk to the groomer?
Yes. Just let the front desk know you’d like to speak with your groomer or bather.
What is a Comfort Groom?
A Comfort Groom prioritizes your pet’s safety and stress level over a specific style. We start with a bath to see how your pet handles the process, then adjust from there, which can mean a shorter cut, skipping a clean face or feet trim, extra breaks, or gentler handling for anxious, senior, or sensitive pets. It’s a good fit for senior pets, highly anxious or reactive dogs, heavily matted coats, puppies new to grooming, or any pet that struggles with a full session.
Are muzzles used on pets?
Only when a pet specifically needs one, and only after we’ve tried other ways to keep them calm. A muzzle is harmless and protects both your pet and the groomer, and it can sometimes even calm a scared pet down. Pets that need a muzzle or extra hands to manage safely are billed at a higher rate, since that grooming takes meaningfully longer.
What if my pet has matting?
Matted coats need extra care. Left alone, mats can pull tight enough to irritate or tear skin and trap moisture, which can lead to skin issues. Removing heavy matting sometimes requires shaving and can carry a small risk of nicks or irritation; we’ll always talk with you first if your pet’s mats are severe enough that a vet visit is the safer option. We recommend a grooming visit every 4 to 8 weeks to help prevent heavy matting.
Do you offer a deshedding treatment?
Yes. Every dog sheds, some more than others, especially during seasonal blowouts. Our deshedding service uses tools matched to your dog’s coat, and a monthly bath with deshedding is usually enough for most dogs. During heavier shedding seasons, we also recommend an extra brush-only visit within 7 to 10 days of your first grooming visit, priced the same as the deshedding add-on.
What is the difference between grooming blades and guard combs?
Blades are used for shorter cuts and a smooth, close finish. Guard combs are used for longer trims and give a softer, fluffier look. Both leave your pet with a fresh cut; ask your groomer if you’re not sure which fits your pet best.
What kind of dryers do you use?
We use velocity dryers as our main drying method, and pets that prefer it can air dry or sit near a fan instead. Pets are always dried one at a time under direct supervision. Since velocity dryers are loud, we also use “happy hoodies” to cover your pet’s ears.
How is my cat washed?
Cats are typically bathed after a shave, with touch-ups once dry. Some cats do well with a waterless bath instead, depending on their comfort level. Very matted coats may not look fully smooth after grooming, and we’ll talk with you about what to expect.
Where are the pets when they are waiting for their grooming day?
Pets wait in a kennel with room to relax, near our team members at their stations, or with a favorite carrier or item from home, whichever helps them feel most comfortable.
What is parking like at each location?
Anthem has a large, free lot. Arcadia shares a free lot with a nearby grocery store; the location is on the second floor, and a team member can meet you curbside if needed. Arrowhead has free parking shared with a few nearby businesses, with two 10-minute spots for drop-off and pickup. Litchfield has free parking in a large shared lot with a 10-minute drop-off spot. North 32nd has free parking in a large shared retail lot. Uptown has free shared parking, including with a busy coffee shop next door; message the location if you can’t find a spot and a team member can come grab your pet.
