This time of year has a wonderful way of getting people into the giving spirit. While there are endless ways we can give back to our community, let’s think about ways to give back to the pets in our community this year! Did you know that November is National Senior Pet Month? An easy way to give back is to visit your local shelter and give some love to the senior pets! You can also help your local shelters with some free advertising by posting about the pets you visit with on social media– tag the location and encourage those in your community to adopt these senior sweethearts!
Another great way to give back is to donate blankets and toys to your local pet shelters. While shelters do their best to provide comfy quarters for their adoptable cats and dogs, funding only gets them so far! Shelters will happily accept most donations– beds, crates, food, treats, etc. If you’re unsure what your local shelter will take, simply give them a call beforehand!
Of course, the most valuable gift you can give this season is your time. In fact, Nov. 3-9 is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! Spend time with shelter pets in your local community and share their stories with others who may be looking to adopt a pet for the holidays! Every furry friend deserves a cozy furever home– especially this time of year!
If you can’t adopt but are open to fostering a pet, see if your local shelters are looking for foster homes! It’s a great way to provide a safe, loving environment until the shelter can place the pet in his or her furever home. Remind friends and family as well that fostering is an option if they’re considering a furbaby!
